My year in GRi11 2.0

Dear future Kristy (if that’s still your name)

I’m here to tell you all the awesome things child you did at College Street Normal School ( your third primary school.) First of all remember when you got the lead role of Cinderella in the production? You were so nervous and when you were supposed to be on stage you were only just getting your second dress on because their was a huge crowd of little kids waiting to go on stage, and you couldn’t get past them. Before we go any further I would like to ask you a very important question…..
Is their time travel in the future? If so please send me a letter saying that it's you. Also Do you have kids or a Husband?

Right now it's 2016 and it's probably 2036 for you or something like that. Anyway, Are you famous or did that dream never come true? I guess I'll find out soon. Now I would like to remind you of Jump Jam. The whole Jump Jam team went to Tauranga (in NZ just in case you forgot) and we stayed at this awesome place called the reef apartments. Right next to the apartments was a beach we went to the beach and did sparklers because I was guy fawkes night. At the back of the apartments their was a huge pool! It was heated and half the pool was warm and the other half was hot. It was Amazing! When we performed we did Gangnam Style! And we came 3rd which was awesome because we got put into the open advanced category.

Do you remember how you used devices every day in Gri11 2.0 (that was our class name) and how we used Google classroom and drive. I bet you have something way better than a MacBook Air computer. I would like to remind you of your blog so here’s the link: link to Blog
You/ I posted a lot of stuff on that blog.

Hopefully you're living a successful great life, but if you're not then hurry up you don't have that long before you become old and can't do anything.

Cultural Diversity - Yoga

This term Gri11 2.0 have been learning about Cultural Diversity. Cultural Diversity is embracing other cultures and knowing how different they're to your culture or someone else's. At the moment we're taking action. My group is Doing a yoga class for each syndicate, we are running these yoga classes at a cultural Festival that other students from our class are running. We are also running these classes for one of our school sports rotations, which I'm really looking forward too.

My group and I have worked really hard at organising our class and creating our routine that we will be teaching the students that come to our yoga class. We have done a trial yoga class and the students that came to the class loved it, which makes us feel really good about teaching the yoga.

One of the girls in my group (Holly G) does yoga, so she taught us a couple of the moves that she does at her Yoga class.

Yoga is fun and I hope you can try it sometime!

Jump Jam in Tauranga

On Friday the CSNS Jump Jammers went to Tauranga to compete in the Jump Jam Nationals. We took two vans from school to our apartment in Tauranga. It was a five hour drive, but it went really quick because my friend Ava and I were making up parody's to songs. We stopped in Taupo to eat lunch and play at the park. My favourite part about the park was the swings because there were five swings and they are all facing each other so when you swing on them you hit every ones feet. It's so scary but mostly fun.

When we finally got to Tauranga we were all so excited to see what the apartments looked like. The teachers put four people in each apartment plus a teacher, the apartments were huge! Ava and I got the biggest room and it was awesome. The teachers made us go to bed early because we had a big day on Saturday.

The next day Miss Williams walked into our rooms at 5:30 am ( I know, too early) with her phone videoing Ava and I sleeping. After about 2 minutes she finally woke us up. " It's too early" we groaned. When I finally got up I ate some breakfast and got dressed then they started to do our make up. We had sparkly silver eyes and two pink stars on the side of our fore heads. Next the did our hair, it looked like a mow hawk, but it was cool. Once we had finished getting ready we took the vans to the theatre.

Once we arrived at the theatre, I had so many butterflies in my tummy it felt like i was on a roller coaster. A lady lead us down to the stage, my butterflies got even worse. The group before us walked off stage and before I had any time to realise that it was our turn to go on stage we were already walking on. As soon as the music started my butterflies went away. everyone put so much energy into the performance, it looked awesome! When we got off stage no one could talk because we had been chanting so loud that it hurt to talk. Finally all the performances had been and it was time to find out the placings. We walked on stage nervously, They read out third place " in third place we have..... College St Normal School with Gangnam Style!" We were all so happy we couldn't believe we got a placing.

It was such a fun weekend and I wish I could do it again!

LILY IN THE JUNGLE
FEATURING THE MAGICAL WISHING TREE

On a summer’s day, Lily was making her mother a special birthday breakfast. Lily had light mousey brown long hair with a little red ribbon tied around her ponytail. She wore a red cloak and buckle shoes. With her buckle shoes, she wore high knee socks with little red ribbons at the top of them. She had just made her mother pancakes with maple syrup, muffins with butter and a cup of tea all ready to take in to her mother’s bedroom. Suddenly Lily remembered SHE FORGOT THE FLOWERS FOR THE SIDE OF THE TRAY! Lily grabbed her basket and set out to the jungle to find the perfect flowers for her mother.

Lily had been walking for what felt like at least an hour but still hadn’t found the perfect flower for her mother. She had walked past yellow flowers, purple flowers, red flowers and pink flowers but none of them stood out to Lily at all. Lily felt like giving up. She started to walk back home, when all of a sudden a big bad wolf jumped out in front of Lily. Lily ran for her life all the way to the other side of the jungle. Until she finally lost the big bad wolf. When Lily caught her breath she took a look around her. There were 5 different paths and she was standing right in the middle  of all of them. She looked around her, to her right was a tall tree. The tree was gold and sparkly and all the leaves were even golder and even sparklier. Lily picked a few leaves for her mum and put them in her basket, they were perfect! Lily chose the path to her right, hopefully it was the right path.

Lily had been walking for what seemed like forever, She started to wonder if she took the right path. Lily’s mouth was as dry as the desert. “I wish I could drink some water” whispered Lily. BOOOOOOOM! Suddenly a long river appeared with a sign saying Drinkable Water. Lily was so happy. There was a drink bottle next to the river, Lily scooped the water into the drink bottle and poured the water into her mouth. Lily put the drink bottle in her basket and started walking on the path again, but then Lily stopped she asked herself how did that river and that drink bottle get there and what was that big boom? “I wish I knew” sighed Lily. BOOOOOOOM! “I know what made that river appear and that drink bottle and Now I know what it is, THE LEAVES!

Lily carefully took out the leaves in her basket their were three leaves, she only had one more wish left. Lily closed her eyes “ I wish I could go home” she said in a loud voice. BOOOOOOOM! Lily opened her eyes she was in her kitchen holding her basket in one hand and the three magical wish leaves in the other. Lily’s mouth was dry again, but Lily had to give her mother her birthday breakfast so she set the flowers up nicely on her mother’s breakfast tray and steadily walked into her mother’s room. “SURPRISE” shouted Lily “ Happy birthday Mother.”Lily’s mother was so happy and so was Lily. “Honey grandma is sick can you take her some bread please.” So Lily set off into the Jungle to deliver the bread to her grandma.

My Fathers day writing

For Father's day GRi11 2.0 have been writing different text types about our Dad's to give to them on Father's Day. This is my Father's day writing

My Dad
My Dad likes to play lots of sports, he has coached rugby for 25 years, first in Scotland, then the Hurricanes in Wellington, and after that it was the Taranaki team in New Plymouth. My Dad stopped coaching for a while and went into business, no matter how many times he explained what his business was about I still don't know. Unfortunately the business didn't work out but just recently he found another job coaching a rugby club in Nelson.

My Dad lives in Nelson, I live in Palmerston North. I miss my Dad so much, I miss his hugs, his really bad jokes that only he thinks are funny, getting to talk about my day to him and every gross, funny, annoying and loving part of him. I love talking to my Dad but sometimes I don't have any time to talk with him.

My Dad always used to eat my chocolate, especially at Christmas. I would open up the wrapping paper to see it was chocolate, I was always really excited because I LOVE chocolate I would eat two rows and then on the next day I would come back and it just disappeared over night, but I mean that’s why I love him.

I am my Dad’s favorite child (well I’m pretty sure anyway.) I guess I’m the youngest and he was the youngest in his family so it’s just a younger sibling kind of bond.

My Dad is a cool Dad, he’s not too embarrassing, but when he starts dancing we are not related at all. I’m so lucky to have you as my Dad, I mean thanks to you i’m alive. Happy Fathers day Dad, youƕe the best!

Hungary

Hungary is a landlocked country in Europe. Their are 7 countries bordering Hungary Ukraine, Slovakia, Austria, Romania, Serbia, Croatia and Slovenia
The capital of Hungary is Budapest and 9,821,973 million people live in Hungary.

The Hungarian flag looks similar to the Italian flag their are three lines that go horizontally the top one is red the middle line is white and the last line is green.

The highest point in Hungary is KĂ©kes which is 1,014 m tall. It is Hungary's third most popular tourist attraction. KĂ©kes in Hungarian means blue because KĂ©kes is a blueish colour.

Air and water pollution are some of Hungary’s most serious environmental problems, because if their water is too dirty then they will be no clean water that the public can drink. Unfortunately Hungary aren’t doing anything to fix this problem, but if they did they should make a campaign on saving our environment.

Hungary are going to the Rio Olympics 2016. Over the years that Hungary have been to the Olympics they have won 482 medals all together. Hungary came 6th in the 2012 London Olympics.

I hope Hungary sort out their environmental problems otherwise no one will want to visit Hungary anymore. I also hope they do well in the Olympics!

Our Whole School Production

7/7/17

This year CSNS put on a whole school production called Cinderella and Rockerfella. I played the role of Cinderella. The night came so fast and went even quicker. I had so much fun with my friends joking about things in the production but also being serious about our roles in the production.

This is a photo of me and my friends in the interval at the production.
It was really fun and a good way to finish the term!

My Favorite Thing About Learning In GRi11 2.0!

2/06/16

My favourite thing about learning in GRi11 2.0 is how many devices we have and that we use them everyday for our learning. I really enjoy having a blog and following fast track.

Fast track is a document on a device that the teachers set us tasks on. We have our names in a list down the left hand side of the page. and the tasks up the top. we copy and paste our links from the task that we did under the task on fast track beside our name. It sounds confusing but it'sreally easy when you know what you're doing.
Here's a photo of Fast Track!

Computers are really fun to use because you don't have to lean on anything to write and you just press one button to delete instead of having to get a rubber then rubbing it out. We also have enough devices in our room for everyone to have one each and at my old school we only had 10 to share between 240 kids (4 classes.)

I really enjoy devices and hope we use them a lot in the future!

Sign language name - finger spelling video.

this is me signing my name.

The Last Cookie.

19/05/16

This is a story I made up! Kylie and Kendall as 12 or 13 year old's .

One day Kylie and Kendall Jenner both went to Kim's house and Khloe was there as well. The Jenner's got a plate of cookies placed in front of them and were both so excited to eat them!

They scoffed them all up in seconds, until there was one left. The Jenner's fought over who gets the cookie for hours. Suddenly Kim and Khloe walk in, Kylie and Kendall both pause Kendall explains what's going on and Kim suggests to do a contest on who should win the last cookie! The Jenner's both agreed to do it and decided to have a boxing match, whoever wins the most rounds will get the last cookie.

They made a ring out of boxes and mattresses. Kendall had the blue boxing gloves and Kylie had the red boxing gloves from Toy world. ''ROUND 1'' said Khloe. Kendall and Kylie ran at each other pushing, punching, hitting and defending. Finally round 1 was over and the winner was Kendall! ''ROUND 2'' said Kim. They repeated everything they did in round 1 except this time Kylie won!

''ROUND 3'' said Khloe, Kendall won! ''ROUND 4'' said Kim, Kylie won!

''Looks like it's a tie'' said Kim. Kendall and Kylie both raced to the cookie to find that the cookie wasn't there! Their dog cookie monster was halfway through eating it! Kylie and Kendall both screamed.

''Don't worry we can just buy another packet at the super market'' said Khloe. ''O Yeaaaaaa'' said the Jenner's. So they all drove to the super market to buy cookies and they all lived happily ever after well for now anyway.

THE END.

Traditional Teaching StyleđŸš¶

17/05/16

It was a normal school day, until GRi11 2.0 all got to the classroom and that’s where it all started from there.

Signs saying do not enter until 8:50am and only half a class to work in. No technology, no mini fridge, no doors unlocked and nothing from this decade anyway.

“Sit down and be quiet” a voice screamed. We sat but my chair was only ⅓ of my table so all the person sitting across from me was from my chin up. Dictionary skills and dictation was “fun”.

Suddenly a ringing sound went off in my head I sighed with relief “do you think it’s over yet?” My friend asked me. We lined up and marched and marched and marched. I wasn’t very happy with my play group and what we played. Another bell rang “ugh”.

Sitting down in lines and sitting up tall and everything folded. “Hahahahahahaha” all of a sudden the teachers start bursting out in laughter it was all fake and we all guessed it!

My Favourite Sports Rotation

5/05/16

At my school we do sports rotations, sports rotations are on one day of the week where at the end of the day we get assigned two sports and we get to be coached by student coaches in both the sports that we got assigned.

Student coaches are a couple of students from the senior team that get chosen to teach the senior team sports their are around 10+ student coaches.

My favourite sports rotation is hockey because I play hockey so it helps me be accurate and I also really like the circuits because you know that you're getting fit while your doing it and I love hitting the tyre and the cone ten times each with a baseball bat.

One Week In Nelson

 2/5/16

In the first week of the two week holidays, I flew to Nelson from Palmerston North with my sister Kate to visit my Dad. It was about a 40 minute flight and it was really pretty! When we landed in Nelson, my Dad and his girlfriend Anissa were waiting for us at this little Helicopter hanger, it was kinda cute.

We went on a drive to a hill so we could see the whole of Nelson plus the sea it was so pretty. After that we went to their house and sorted out our rooms, I really liked my room because it had an awesome view out the window.

The next day we went to a beach called Kaiteriteri beach and hopped on a boat that took us to a really nice beach, (forgot the name of it) when we got to the beach we went on a really long 2 hour walk through pure bush, to get to another beach called Bark Bay (yes I remember that name) where the boat was picking us up from and taking us back to Kaiteriteri. Unfortunately we were fast walkers so it took us an hour to walk through bush to get to Bark Bay to find out we still had to wait 3 hours until the next boat comes to pick us up! So we decided to lie towels down, eat lunch and sunbathe (this didn't go very well because their were mosquito's  landing all over us and just to make it even better we forgot to bring insect repellent!) Finally the boat came and picked us up.

A couple of days later we had a baking contest, I baked my mums amazing Brownie, my sister baked Banana cake, my friend Harriet made Corn fritters and my Dad made cooked dinner. I personally think I won!

Towards the end of the week we went to the movies to see The Hunt For The Wilder People, it was really funny and really cool cause it was a New Zealand film.

I really loved going to Nelson and I cant wait till next holidays.

Swimming Sports

13/04/16

On Tuesday the 12th April, College St Normal School went to the lido aquatic centre to do swimming sports. From the day you start at College St Normal school you get put into a team their are four teams Kea, Weka ,Tui and Takahe I'm in Weka we won the swimming sports with just over 100 points! I personally think Weka has most of the best swimmers at school.

I raced in the 25m Freestyle and 25m Breast stroke unfortunately in both my races i came second to last but I know that swimming is definitely not my biggest strength. In second place was Tui, third place was Kea and fourth was Takahe.

We were at the lido for around 6 hours and I only had to 2 minute races so I pretty much ate and talked the whole time it was really boring!

Once we got off the bus that took us back to school, we still had half an hour to spare before school ended so we played a game called why are you late? This game is an acting game and is really fun!

School Water Safety Swimming At The Lido

1/04/16

Every Friday GRi11 2.0 does school swimming at the lido, girls go on the bus first and at the end of our lesson the boys show up. We get put into 3 different groups, 1 in the little pool and two in the bigger pool. Each group gets assigned a colour, I'm in the colour Green which is the middle group my friend Sarah is also in my group and my friend Lola is in the red group which is the highest group, I also have a friend Siu who is in the Yellow group which is in the smaller pool. The pool is freezing when you first get in it, but after a while the pool gets way warmer. In swimming we learn how to tread water and we swam half a length doing freestyle, backstroke ,switching over from freestyle to backstroke and much more. Today is Friday so we have it again today in the middle block and i cant wait!

Womad 2016

18/ 03/16
This weekend was Womad 2016! Womad is a big music festival held in New Plymouth where i used to live. It's funny because when i was living there i never went but now that i moved to Palmerston North i have been to Womad. Womad is once every year and is only held in New Plymouth, New Zealand!

At Womad their is lots of food and cool hippie clothes to buy plus some hippie jewellery as well, you can also get a henna and a henna pen. My friend (Maya) bought a henna pen and tried to do henna on my hand but it kinda failed so then next morning when i had to go to school i looked in the mirror and saw henna all down the side of my face from my henna on my hand. I thought well i don't want this to happen tomorrow as well so i tried my hardest to scrub it off of my hand it came off of my hand just not my fingers so i had orange henna on my fingers for about 4 days!

One of my favourite foods at Womad is a Churos! This is my favourite food at Womad because they put chocolate sauce all down the middle of the churo and spilling out the top they are delicious you can also get caramel instead of chocolate.

I had sooooo much fun this year at Womad with all of my really good friends. I can't wait till next year!
This is around how many people come to Womad plus more!

Learning spaces in GRi11 2.0

9/3/16

This year I'm learning in GRi11 2.0 and we have four different learning spaces. We have the main space called the 'Hub' which is pretty much two classes joined together and it has a Foosball table and a ping pong table which most people play on before school starts. Their are also six tables in the hub, two of them are whiteboard tables, which the girls love draw on before school, and the rest are just normal tables with chairs.

Their is also another learning space called the 'Hangout'. The hangout is for people who want to talk and have group meetings. Their is one table in there with around five swirly chairs round it and a bench with two regular chairs.Their is also a blue couch with a little green coffee table in there.

We also have a little hallway called the 'Hall of fame'. This hallway has a long bench going all the way down from the start of the hall to the end of it.On the bench are four iMac computers, and in the morning we have monitors that get the computers from a safe (in another learning space that I will talk about next) and make sure they are charged and put them on the benches so we can use them everyday.

Last but not least, my favourite place in the whole classroom is the 'Hideout'. The hideout is a place for people who just want it to be silent in the class so they just shut the door and be quiet. It has a table with about eight chairs around it, a red couch with a little green coffee table in front of it, two big beanbags and one small beanbag, a little bench with three chairs at it and the safe where all the senior computers go.This is my favourite learning space because its really quiet and I can concentrate.

These four learning spaces all can be used in different situations. I really like how we have four different learning spaces because otherwise we would be crammed in one small classroom because we have sixty kids in GRi11 2.0. At my old school in New Plymouth we had thirty kids in one classroom and only five computers with one teacher, but in GRi11 2.0 we have almost one computer for everyone, two teachers, sometimes there are five teachers in our class and sixty kids in the classroom. I really like learning in GRi11 2.0!

GRi11 2.0 at Sixtus Lodge

On Monday GRi11 2.0 went on camp at Sixtus Lodge in Apiti.

It was about an hours drive from College Street Normal School(CSNS) and i personally think we had the best car group ( Amber,Dorothy,Ella and Ambers Dad Scott) because we had the music pumped and Dorothy throwing up plus we had a few funny chats.

When we arrived at camp we had to wait about 15 mins for both the teachers to arrive so we all sat down and ate our morning tea and played on the obstacle course which i thought was a playground. Finally the teachers arrived and we all went inside our dorms to set up our beds, next to me was Shawny, above me was Lola and above Shawny was Ella.

After we had set up our beds we set off on a longggggg boringgggg walk, it took about 2 hours to get to a little cabin where we sat on the deck and ate our lunch. Then we set off  back to camp again all together it took about 4 hours and we were all exhausted by the time we got back.

I was about to collapse on my bed when Mr R blew the whistle we all lazily walked outside onto the hill and sat down he said ''ok now you can all have some freetime'' I heard a big scream of ''yasssssss''and we all lazed back to our dorms and collapsed on our beds.

For some reason i actually quite enjoyed it!
